A-Pod deployed in White Pond for 2026

Great news for White Pond in Concord — the A-Pod system has been deployed in White Pond for 2026, following another successful season improving water quality and preventing harmful algae blooms.

The 2025 A-Pod program demonstrated once again how effective the system has been at reducing the nutrients that fuel cyanobacteria growth. In 2025 alone, two “Sentinel” A-Pods removed 132 pounds of tree pollen and forest debris from the pond before those materials could decompose and contribute to algae blooms.

The system also captured phosphorus and organic material that would otherwise reduce water quality and clarity.

These efforts continue to produce measurable results. Since A-Pods were first deployed in 2022, White Pond has not required any cyanobacteria-related swimming advisories or water-use restrictions — a major change after roughly five consecutive years of seasonal health warnings prior to the project.

Water clarity has improved significantly, aquatic habitat conditions are healthier, and monitoring shows a more balanced and diverse aquatic ecosystem. Even during years with especially heavy pollen deposition, the pond has remained in far better condition than in the past.

Residents, swimmers, and anglers continue to share positive feedback, with many saying White Pond looks the best it has in more than 30 years.
